BABY CUPID: squirmy babies and love struck kittens

This past month of love, I was able to get quite a few Valentine's Day shoots done, one being a studio session with my beautiful and spunky baby niece of 6 months. When I say spunky, I really mean she was so distracted by our "studio cat" named Roberta walking by and trying to steel props, the fabulous balloons behind her, and the red heart garland we wrapped her up in to keep our little model "modest", that getting more than a handful of good/decent shots was definitely more than a workout .

At just 6 months, Im in awe of how much of her personality and character are already so present. As well as how hard it is to take pictures of a squirmy baby who doesn't care how cute she's going to look in these pictures!

If you're someone who works with babies, no matter your field, then you will agree with me that things don't always go as planned and that a temper tantrum isn't just a maybe but a matter of when. Add our curious cat Roberta to the mix and things get a whole lot more exciting! Out of about 40-50 shots I had only a good handful to work with, meaning I only had 5.

*insert laughter as I scratch Roberta while she sits here on my lap as I type*

I swear this cat has a sixth sense for when I sit down at my computer desk!

Even though I didn't have much to show for my little session with this little diva, I am happy with the outcome! Especially the photo above! I have to say it is the best of the bunch! Cant wait to put it in her high school graduation slide!

I had a Valentine's day shoot earlier that day so I repurposed the balloons and props from the session and used them here with Rosemary. You don't always need expensive props or need to spend hours making your own. I made out like a bandit at my local Dollar General and Hobby Lobby. I got a ton of props for the session and even some extras to store for future sessions! The only thing that was "pricey" were the balloons. But they got great use as props, cats toys, and hours of great entertainment for my niece.

All in all I'm glad I was able to make this little memory with this beautiful girl! Little does she know that being in front of my camera is going to become a huge part of her life. I can't wait to for our next session! Easter is right around the corner which means my vision of her in bunny ears is almost about to come true!

Got any tips for shooting with babies and kiddos? Send them my way! I look forward to hearing from you!

Stay creative & keep shooting!
